AC/DC Racer

Dragster 2 EVIL

The MXS Custom staff never seems to get tired of being constantly evolving. Our in-house engineers dedicated themselves yet again to another ground-breaking project that birthed from a collaboration with Ionimo: the all new, one of its kind dragster based on an electric motor named "AC/DC Racer". Besides the up-coming company Ionimo, our mechanicians managed to team up with none other than Stage 6 for this project.

The denomination "AC/DC" is based on the way the dragster works, the alternating current recharges the battery while the continuous current actually powers the engine. And yes, knowing that the Burgi Brothers are longtime adherents of a certain rock band, the people at Ionimo kind of had to give that hint.

The dragster itself measures 1480 millimeters from front wheel to back wheel and comes in with a record-like weight of 57,4 kilograms. The engine, a Vectrix VX-1, is originally mounted on an electric powered Maxiscooter without a heavy wheel-hub and runs on 125 volts of continuous current.

30 horsepower at 65 Nm is the regular engine performance, but for the Maxiscoot engineering pros this was by far not enough. They raised the bar looking for an astonishing 50 horsepower at 85 Nm output! This significant power upgrade required a new and specific battery. For the engine electronic control unit the mechanicians also used a Vectrix VX-1 and as for the battery they used a "Li". The dragster's body has, of course, been developed, built and mounted by MXS Custom and in cooperation with Ionimo. Bearing in mind the duties and the right balance of performance and originality the MXS-Ionimo crew decided to use a dealtabox-like frame, inspired by the racing motorcylces. No need to mention that with these types of dragsters, there is no necessity for suspension.

Stage 6 was in charge of the tire equipment in the back, using the new 13" Slick Dragrace while the front was equipped with a 3.00x10 Deestone D801. While the braking system in the front is being well proportioned with the latest Motoforce air master, a Brembo double-piston brake caliper and the braking disk "Wave" by Galfer, the back solely uses the engine that provides sufficient braking power which is generated from a smart energy-recovery system.

The clevis also comes from Stage 6 with a modified R/T Dragrace cladding tube and 30 millimeter diameter. The aluminum headset is a modified Stage 6 R/T as well. Special attention was given to the steering head bearing using a tapered roller bearing. The stem of the AC/DC Racer is by BCD and the handle bar comes from Str8. Another high-end product has been used for the shock absorber, a rotating version from W.E.R, which is still seldom with these types of machines.

We have talked so much now about the AC/DC Racer's blueprint and performance, come see it in action yourself at the different runs of the 2011 season. As always, we will keep you updated about future releases.

See you soon on the race tracks,

Yours, MXS Custom
