MXS 90cc prototype racing bike

As market leader for the sale of scooter parts for many years, we still didn't have an official "mechanical gearbox" racing bike. We had already produced our "Derbi mechanical gearbox" racing bike, but this was more of a Custom bike used only for exhibitions. Anyway, now we've done it! After only two weeks of hard labour, we're proud to unveil our new "mechanical gearbox" prototype and show, once again, the depth and breadth of our know-how.

We began by making an aluminium frame, then we adapted a "home-made" fork mounted on "BUD Racing" fork T-pieces from a KTM SX85. The wheel rims came from PVM, a company known worldwide for its top-quality rims (made of forged magnesium, carved from the block). For a correct fit, we chose two Bridgestone Battlax tyres (size: 90/580/17) to give us impeccable grip for the Runs.

To make the whole thing roar, we grafted on an AM6 type engine fitted with a prototype of our future MXS 90cc cylinder kit, coupled to a crankshaft of the same name with a 46mm stroke and 90mm rod. To evacuate the gases we also developed our own MXS exhaust system, which we've called "El Banana" (The Banana) due to its unusual shape.

The spark is provided by a PVL Digital ignition system that we've reprogrammed with a special MXS curve, while the fuel is delivered by an MXS intake system (also a prototype), combined with a 34mm KOSO carburettor + MXS tulip valve (prototype). To transfer all this power to the wheel, we had to construct a special semi-automatic clutch system, combined with a Metrakit gearbox.

We then had to cover all this mechanical beauty. Here, we decided on a glass fibre front fairing (Aprilia RS 125, 1998) which we adapted to the size of the bike. The rear section comes from a Yamaha R6, which we also modified. We covered everything in matt black paint and decorated it all with a kit using our image.

For its very first outing (at the 2011 Scooterpower Weekend in Thenay), we achieved the best time in its category (not including reaction time). This machine looks to have a promising future!

Yours, MXS Custom
