The function of the fuel filter is to protect the engine, and the resulting engine performance, by filtering out impurities and debris from the fuel or tank, preventing damage to important engine components.
When should I change the fuel filter?
Over time, contaminants accumulate in the filter, causing a reduction in fuel flow to the engine. This can lead to loss of power, misfiring and even stalling of the engine. To avoid these problems, regular fuel filter maintenance is essential, usually every 10,000 to 20,000 miles.
