Suzuki Katana scooter - General information
After the successful introduction of the Suzuki AP 50 into the scooter world, Suzuki began to develop scooters with a distinctly sporty look. They launched the Suzuki Katana AY 50 in 1997, a scooter which, with its air vents on the side and stylish fairing, was able to compete with the Aprilia SR and Yamaha Aerox. It was named after the Katana samurai sword and the namesake motorcycle from the 1980s.
There were two versions of this scooter, one with liquid-coold and the other with air-cooled engine.
Suzuki Katana AY 50 - Engine
The Katana AY 50 is equipped with a Morini 2-stroke engine. The engine is liquid-cooled, which leads to better heat dissipation. The Suzuki AY 50 uses a Keihin carburetor to regulate the fuel-air mixture. The displacement is 50cc. It has a CVT and a V-belt.
Suzuki Katana - Chassis
The Katana AY 50 is equipped with a Showa upside-down fork at the front. The rear suspension consists of a monoshock with 60mm travel. The front disc brake has a diameter of 180 mm, while the rear brake has a drum brake with a diameter of 120 mm. The 12-inch wheels offer a good compromise between maneuverability and stability.
