Clutch Springs for Maxi Scooters

Like 50cc scooters, maxi scooters are generally equipped with automatic centrifugal clutches. The clutch consists of clutch shoes that move outwards under centrifugal force as engine speed increases. The clutch springs hold the shoes in position and have a major influence on performance. As they are wear items, they should be replaced regularly.

Some sports scooters, such as the Yamaha TMax, use a multi-plate wet clutch instead. This combines the characteristics of a motorcycle clutch with those of a scooter CVT, as roller weights compress the friction and steel plates together.

We offer clutch springs for the most popular models, including the Gilera Runner, Piaggio MP3, Yamaha XMax, Suzuki Burgman and many more.

To provide you with high-quality products, we work with renowned brands such as Stage6, Polini and Malossi.

Choosing the Right Clutch Springs: Which Spring Rate Matches Your Engine?

The rule is simple: the higher the engine's power band, the stiffer the clutch springs.

Standard engines with a stock exhaust produce their optimum torque at relatively low engine speeds. For this reason, OEM clutch springs are comparatively soft. After fitting a sports exhaust, maximum power is reached at higher engine speeds, while low-end torque decreases. Stiffer clutch springs delay clutch engagement, allowing the engine to launch at higher revs for improved acceleration.

Tip: If your engine is tuned and you are adjusting the CVT rollers, we recommend purchasing a clutch spring kit with different spring rates. This makes it much easier to find the ideal setup.
