Brake shoes for scooter, moped and classic motorcycle
The brake shoes of mopeds, scooters and vintage motorcycles are attached to the chassis or engine. By operating the brake lever or brake pedal, the brake shoes are pressed against the brake drum, creating enough friction to slow the vehicle down and ultimately bring it to a stop.
Brake shoe types
Brake shoe linings are made of composite materials such as ceramic, sintered metal or organic materials (carbon fiber, Kevlar). Each material offers advantages and disadvantages in terms of performance, durability and brake performance.
Brake pad wear
The linings of brake shoes wear out naturally over time. Their service life depends on factors such as riding style, road conditions and type of brake pads used. It is very important to regularly check the brake shoes for wear and replace them when necessary.
Replacing brake shoes
To replace the brake shoes, you will usually have to remove the wheel to access the drum brake with the brake shoes. The actual replacement is quite simple. Always remember to clean the brake drum thoroughly with brake cleaner before remounting the wheel.
