Despite popular belief that changing the oil is more important than changing the filter - wrong! The oil filter retains all impurities and shavings so that they do not get into any vital engine components. So simply changing the oil without replacing the filter increases the risk of contaminants getting into the new oil.
So keep in mind: Replace the filter every time you change the oil!
