A properly geared transmission is a crucial factor in the performance of a motorcycle. You can have the most powerful cylinder, the best exhaust and the greatest tuning parts on the market - if the transmission is not properly geared, too short or too long, you will never get the best performance out of it.

If you have the necessary know-how you can replace single gearbox parts or the complete gearbox, there is a huge range of options for 50cc motorbikes.

Always remember to maintain the gearbox by changing the oil regularly. You can use gear oil or 4-stroke engine oil (depending on the manufacturer's recommendation).

For 50cc motorcycles, there are complete racing gearboxes whose ratios are designed for tuned setups and where some relevant components are reinforced.

Note: If you can't or don't want to replace the original gearbox with a racing gearbox, you can also change the final ratio by using a different sized front sprocket and rear sprocket.
