Gilera Runner: General Information
The Gilera Runner stands out for its unusual design. Depending on the model year, the scooter is available with an engine displacement of 50 to 200 cc. Early models have a two-stroke engine, with four-stroke engines added later. A central reinforcement brace makes the frame stiffer than those of most other scooters. This makes getting on a little less convenient, as the rider has to lift a leg over the frame. In return, the Runner handles more precisely and feels sportier on the road.
This page covers the 50 cc Runner. The first generation was offered from 1997 to 2005 as a standard version and as an SP. The difference is the rear brake: the standard version has a drum brake, while the SP has a disc brake.
From 2006 onward, the Runner was available only as an SP. The model change also brought major changes to the frame, design, and equipment. More information is available on another page.
Gilera Runner 50: Engine
The Runner 50 has a liquid-cooled Piaggio two-stroke engine. The engine is easy to tune and can also be tuned extensively. It is also used as the basis for many racing machines. Liquid cooling keeps it at the optimal operating temperature so it can deliver its full power. The fuel mixture is prepared by a carburetor. Starting is handled by an electric starter or a kickstarter.
We carry parts for maintenance, repairs, and tuning, including cylinders, crankshafts, exhausts, variators, clutches, and ignitions.
Gilera Runner 50 / Runner SP 50: Frame
The Runner has an upside-down fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The braking system also varies by version: the standard version has a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The SP model has disc brakes on both wheels. The 12-inch wheels combine agility with good stability.
The frame is one of its key strengths. A welded-in reinforcement brace connects the rear frame rails to the steering head. This reduces frame flex during hard braking and gives the Runner sportier handling.
This also makes the Runner interesting for racing. Its stiff frame provides a good basis for use on the racetrack.
Our online store carries parts for the appearance of your Runner, including body panels, headlights, and taillights. Suitable replacement parts are also available for maintenance and repairs, such as brakes, bearings, tires, and suspension parts.
