Gilera Runner – General information
With the Runner, Gilera developed a scooter with a unique look. Depending on the production year, it was offered from 50cc to 200cc, initially with 2-stroke and later with 4-stroke engines. Thanks to a central reinforcement brace, it has a significantly stiffer chassis than most scooters. The easy step-through found on many scooters is eliminated, as you have to lift your leg to mount it, but in return, you get very precise and sporty handling.
This section covers the 50cc models from 2005 onwards, which run under the designation Runner SP 50.
NOTE: There was already an SP version before 2005, which is similar to the standard model but features a rear disc brake.
Gilera Runner 50 SP - Engine
The engine is a liquid-cooled Piaggio single-cylinder two-stroke engine with a long engine block. This engine is considered very powerful and often serves as the basis for racing vehicles. Due to the liquid cooling, it always operates within the optimal temperature range and can deliver its power consistently. Mixture preparation is handled via a carburetor. The scooter is started electrically or via kickstarter.
Naturally, we carry all parts for maintenance, repair, or tuning, such as cylinders, crankshafts, exhaust systems, variators, clutches, and ignition systems.
Gilera Runner SP 50 - Chassis
An upside-down fork provides damping at the front, while a monoshock absorber is used at the rear. High-performance disc brakes are installed both front and rear to stop the machine effectively. The 14-inch and 13-inch wheels offer very good stability.
The Runner's great strength lies in its frame construction. As mentioned, there is a double reinforcement bar between the rear frame rails and the steering column. This increased stiffness prevents twisting during heavy braking maneuvers and allows for a much sportier riding style.
This is a strong argument especially for racing, as the frame represents a very solid basis for use on the track.
In our online shop, you will find parts for visual upgrades such as fairings, headlights, and taillights, as well as components for maintenance such as brakes, bearings, tires, and chassis parts.
