Aprilia SR 50 – General information
In 1992, Aprilia presented the SR50 to the public. The scooter was an immediate success and quickly became one of the brand’s most well‑known models. Its striking design, strongly inspired by Aprilia’s sport motorcycles, along with the 50cc 2‑stroke engine – initially from Minarelli (first upright, later horizontal, then also with Morini and finally Piaggio engines) – contributed significantly to its long‑lasting success.
SR50 1992-1993 – Engine
In its first years of production, the Aprilia SR50 came with an air‑cooled upright Minarelli engine, also used in the well‑known MBK Booster / Yamaha BW’s. This widely used engine offers a solid base for performance upgrades thanks to its simple design and the large selection of tuning parts available.
Equipped with a practical electric starter, the SR50 also features a kickstarter, which is useful when the battery is low.
The air cooling may seem simple, but it is sufficient for reliable heat dissipation in stock form. Intake takes place through a reed valve block mounted on the cylinder.
The power transmission via variator and V‑belt ensures smooth, jerk‑free acceleration, making the SR50 pleasant to ride, especially in city traffic.
Aprilia SR 50 Urban Kid – Chassis
At the front, a telescopic fork is used; at the rear, a hydraulic mono shock absorber is mounted directly on the engine, which also serves as the swingarm. This provides solid damping of bumps and a comfortable ride. Braking is handled by a 190 mm disc at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear – sufficient for the stock engine. The 13‑inch wheels further enhance stability.
