Yamaha YZ 85
The Yamaha YZ 85 was launched as the successor of the YZ 80 in 2002, as a result of a change in race regulations concerning the maximum displacement allowed in the class. It was restyled for the occasion, adopting the design of its larger siblings, and remained this way until 2014. In 2015, like the rest of the brand's two-stroke models, it received a more modern plastic makeover.
The base was completely overhauled in 2019, with the adoption of a new swingarm based on the chain-tensioning system used on large-displacement bikes, a new, much more powerful Kayaba fork, new triple clamps with several different adjustment positions, a new gearbox, and a completely redesigned engine with exhaust valves. The goal: to compete with KTM!
In 2022, the entire 2-stroke motocross range including the YZ 85 got a major bodywork overhaul.
The 85 YZ Yamaha is a dirt bike for kids available in two versions: with small wheels and with big wheels. It is suitable for riders 1.30m to 1.65m tall.
It is not road-legal, but intended for closed motocross circuits and competition.
The 85 YZ with its rather slim lines shows impressive maneuverability and an easy-to-use engine that is really powerful considering its displacement.
