Brake Pads and Brake Shoes for Maxiscooters

Brake pads and brake shoes are among the components of the braking system that need to be replaced most frequently.

In our online shop, we offer high-quality brake shoes and pads from well-known brands such as Stage6, Stage6 R/T, Motoforce, Motoforce Racing, Polini, Malossi, or Galfer.

We carry different pad types to meet all requirements, for popular scooters such as the Yamaha Tmax and Xmax, Gilera Runner 125 and 180, Honda PCX 125 and Forza 125, and many more models.

Brake Pad Material and Application

Brake pads and brake shoes carry different friction materials and are suitable for various applications. Here is an overview:

Organic Brake Pads

These are generally standard pads used on stock and less powerful vehicles. The compound is softer, providing good modulation even when cold and reducing wear on the brake disc. They are not suitable for sporty use and tend to wear relatively quickly.

Semi-Metallic Brake Pads

These pads are a compromise between organic and sintered pads. They are better suited for more sporty use without being too aggressive. They handle higher temperatures, last longer, and remain versatile.

Sintered Metal Brake Pads

These pads are typically used for sporty applications / racing. They withstand the high temperatures generated during heavy braking, are very durable even under intensive use, and maintain consistent braking performance. However, the highly abrasive material leads to faster wear of the brake disc.

Ceramic Brake Pads

Unlike ceramic brake discs, ceramic pads are widely used and not specifically intended for sporty applications. Like organic pads, they are often used in OEM setups.

Maintenance of Brake Pads and Brake Shoes

Brake pads are easy to replace, and their wear is clearly visible since they can be checked from the outside and the friction layer becomes thinner over time. Caution: do not wait too long before replacing them! If the metal backing plate comes into contact with the brake disc, the disc will also need to be replaced, even if it has not yet reached its wear limit.

For brake shoes in drum brakes, wear is not visible from the outside. If you notice that you need to pull the brake lever further than usual, it is worth checking them. Also note that the brake drum should ideally be refinished before installing new brake shoes.
