The ignition or alternator generates the spark that makes the engine run. Without it, starting and driving are not possible. Choosing the right ignition does not depend only on the model: it must deliver the spark at the right time and match the intended use. From original ignitions or OEM-quality replicas to high-end racing ignitions, our range includes products from well-known brands such as Stage6, MVT, Malossi, Polini, Motoforce and many more.

Ignition components and their function

The performance of a 50cc scooter depends heavily on the ignition. Each component has its function, and in the event of a defect, replacing a single part can restore proper operation. Here are the key components and their functions:

  • Rotor (flywheel): Rotates with the engine and creates the magnetic field so that the stator can generate electricity.
  • Stator: Coil pack that, together with the rotor, generates the current for ignition and battery charging.
  • Pick-up (pulse generator): Detects the crankshaft position and determines the ignition timing.
  • CDI: Electronic control unit of the ignition that processes signals and delivers voltage to the ignition coil.
  • Ignition coil: Converts the CDI voltage into high voltage for a strong ignition spark.
  • Spark plug cap and ignition cable: Carry the high voltage to the spark plug and prevent interference.
  • Spark plug: Ignites the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder.
  • Regulator / rectifier: Converts and stabilizes the current from the stator to protect electrical components.
  • Kill switch / emergency stop switch: Immediately interrupts the ignition and stops the engine.

Ignition types and differences

The type of ignition influences the engine response of a 50cc scooter. There are two main types: standard ignitions or OEM-style replacements for easy installation without further adjustments, and racing ignitions for faster revving and increased performance.

→ Standard ignition (OEM)

Relatively heavy and designed for stock engines. It revs up more slowly and is not intended for very high RPM. However, it provides a stable spark for everyday use, a constant power supply for lighting and instruments, and is considered durable.

Recommendations : Motoforce, Standard Parts, original parts (OEM).

Note : The original CDI is often equipped with an RPM limiter. There are therefore unrestricted CDI units without limiter, which are already useful for mildly tuned setups.

→ Internal rotor racing ignition

The rotor is lighter and allows faster revving. The setup is designed for high RPM, sometimes with variable ignition timing. Some systems also provide 12V for lighting and instruments.

Other ignition components: spark plug, CDI, etc.

Even though the ignition consists of several components and has a major impact on performance, replacing individual parts is often enough to restore proper function.

We offer spark plugs, spark plug caps, cables, ignition coils, and derestricted CDI units individually. These parts are available for common models such as Aerox, Jog, Zip, Typhoon, Kisbee, Speedfight, Chinese scooters (SYM, Kymco, etc.) and come from well-known manufacturers.

    FAQ - frequently asked questions about ignition

    → Does the entire ignition need to be replaced?
    Often not necessary. In most cases, replacing the CDI, ignition coil, or spark plug is sufficient.

    → Which ignition is the right one?
    OEM-style for everyday use. Internal rotor or racing ignition for tuned engines and maximum performance.

    Practical tip

    For everyday use, an original ignition / OEM-quality ignition is the safest choice. For racing or heavily tuned engines, an internal rotor ignition offers more performance. Proven brands help avoid failures.
