Derbi - the story

Derbi was founded as early as 1922 by Simeón Rabasa i Singla. The company was initially a repair shop for bicycles. In 1944, the range and focus was expanded and after the Second World War, Derbi produced their first 50cc moped, the SRS, which laid the foundation for the company's continued success in the two-wheeler market. Derbi went on to bring out other scooters with displacements up to 250cc. Many mass-produced models followed, with Derbi focusing on the 50 cc to 125 cc market to this day, with several popular mopeds, scooters and supermotos models. The Spanish manufacturer has also been able to strengthen their reputation by getting into and remaining committed to motorsports and winning numerous titles and championships.

Racing

Derbi celebrated their first Grand Prix victory in 1968 in the 50cc category. Australian Barry Smith won the legendary race on the Isle of Man. Ángel Nieto won the first World Championship, also in the 50cc class. This was followed by 105 Grand Prix victories, 11 drivers' world championships and 9 constructors' titles for best manufacturer.

Current models and spare parts

In 2001 Derbi joined the Italian Piaggio group. This group continued the production of the iconic and popular Derbi Senda, which is still being built today. All Derbi models are more oriented for sporty use, as evidenced by the Derbi GPR as well as the GP1 and Rambla scooter models. Derbi original spare parts are always top quality, but are inexpensive compared to other vehicle manufacturers.
