Rieju - Company History

in 1934, Luis Riera Carré and Jaime Juanola Farres jointly founded a company whose name was composed of the first syllables of their names: RIEJU. The original business idea was to manufacture bicycle parts and accessories. Soon they built a factory, employing 35 people from 1942, and began producing their first complete bicycles. In 1945, the Spanish company launched their first moped, the No.1. The base of a bicycle was connected to a 38 cc four-stroke engine that generated 1 horsepower and reached a top speed of 40 km/h. At that time, the Spanish company produced their bikes in Rolls Royce style - as unique highest quality pieces . This allowed the brand to make themselves known in the world of motorized two-wheelers. In 1953, the manufacturer designed and built their first motorcycle with a 175 cc engine and excellent suspension. Numerous models and designs followed, a partnership with Minarelli from 1960, off-road motorcycles that won 12 Spanish championships, the birth of the famous Marathon, which was offered in various displacements in the 1980s, the first scooters in 1995, the sporty RS-1 50cc in 1996, the introduction of the double cradle frame in the 2000s, 125cc four-strokes, maxi scooters from 2002 and finally the newer 250 and 300 MR Enduros based on GasGas. Rieju's almost 90-year history proves that it has always been able to adapt to demand, develop and implement innovations, and expand its technical know-how.

Rieju - products and projects

With its long experience, Rieju continues to produce and export more and more models throughout Europe every year. Although the MRT 50 is their biggest success, the Spanish company also has other models in their  range. The catalogue includes 50cc and 125cc supermotos, a 125cc street line, a line of very modern electric scooters, 50cc and 125cc enduros, and since 2021 and the purchase of the GasGas factory, a so-called "hard offroad" line that includes the MR 250 and 300 in several variants. 2021 was also the year in which Rieju returned to racing thanks to the famous 250 and 300, the brand again participated in the Enduro World Championship, with its own team and riders. The return is undoubtedly the starting signal for further successes and records.
