Valve box

The valve gear is a specific part of the 2-stroke engine. It was created to regulate cylinder filling and increase the engine's range of use (without a valve gear, engines were more hollow, and deployed their power more brutally).

Renowned brands such as Moto Tassinari, Stage6, Italkit, Polini and Malossi have developed top-of-the-range products specific to the most popular models on the market.

Performance enhancement

A valve gear can provide a power gain across the entire curve, thanks to more efficient cylinder filling (greater flow).

Lamella materials and thickness (steel, fiber, carbon, epoxy mix) can also have an impact on low or high revs, depending on the choice made. Generally speaking :

  • thicker = harder = less torque, but possible gain at high revs
  • thinner = softer = better acceleration but losses at high revs

Ideally, you should be able to test several and choose the best compromise for your machine.

We also offer clamshell gearbox shims, which increase the volume in the crankcase.

Choosing the right valve box

When preparing an engine, particularly in the world of 50cc scooters and motorcycles, it's important to choose a valve gear suited to the cylinder kit fitted: the more powerful the cylinder kit, the greater the mixture volume provided by the valve gear.

For example, many brands offer "big valve" kits for the MBK Booster, MBK Nitro or Piaggio Zip , whose valve box is extremely small as standard.

On a 50cc motorcycle, with a Minarelli AM6 or Derbi engine, a big valve box means that the crankcases have to be reworked. Keep an eye on this!

For motocross, Moto Tassinari offers V-Force valve gearboxes, which are easy to fit and directly improve flow. You won't have to worry about the thickness of the slats, which has been pre-studied for most popular models(KTM SX, Yamaha YZ, Honda CR, etc...) by the manufacturer.

To make life easier for you, we offer complete intake kits , including intake pipe, valve box and a number of useful accessories.

Cost-effective repairs

The entire valve box can be replaced, but this is not necessarily necessary. In fact, it's the slats that move very quickly and are subject to high stress. They need to be replaced at regular intervals when they become leaky.

In our shop, you'll find a vast choice of carbon, fiberglass and metal slats.

For the rarest models, we offer cut-to-size carbon sheets.
