Kit chaine : complet, idéal

Composant et fonction du kit chaine

Motos et mobylettes, pour la plupart, utilisent pignon, couronne et chaîne pour transmettre la puissance du moteur à la roue arrière. L'ensemble de ces 3 pièces est communément appelé "Kit chaine", et il est généralement préférable de remplacer le tout en même temps.

Dans le cas d'une moto ou une motocross, le pignon de sortie de boite, comme son nom l'indique, se trouve sur l'arbre secondaire de la boite de vitesse. Sur une mobylette, il se trouve lié à la poulie arrière (qui est elle, entrainée par la courroie).
Ce pignon entraine la chaine, qui fait la liaison entre le moteur et la roue arrière en entrainant la couronne.
La couronne enfin, est fixée au moyeu de la roue arrière, et fait tourner la roue pour avancer.

Il existe diverses types de chaines, à la fois au niveau de la taille et de la longueur, mais aussi en fonction de l'usage. En effet, certaines chaines sont basiques, ou simplement renforcées. D'autres sont équipées de joints toriques (en O, en X, ou en U) qui les rendent plus silencieuses et plus durable. Il existe des versions spéciales pour le tout terrain, avec des finitions spécifique pour resister aux exigeances de l'off-road.

Concernant les pignons et couronnes, on peut en trouver en acier ou aluminium (plus léger mais moins durable) et également auto-nettoyante / anti-boue pour le tout terrain (un usinage spécifique est réalisé entre les dents pour évacuer les saletés).

Choisir sa démultiplication, comprendre les conséquences

Il faut choisir chaque élément de son kit chaîne avec minutie. En effet, selon la puissance de son moteur et l'utilisation que l'on fait de sa machine, diverses critères peuvent changer (voir chapitre précédent concernant l'usage en tout terrain, par exemple).

Le pas de chaine est un critère de base : plus le moteur est puissant et coupleux, plus le pas sera grand.

Par exemple: une mobylette vintage utilise une chaine avec un pas de 415. Une 85cc de motocross utilise quand à elle un pas de 428, plus adapté à sa puissance. Une sportive de 1000cc utilise un pas de 530.

Choisir la bonne dépultiplication aura une incidence directe sur la vitesse de pointe et la réactivité de votre machine. Mais attention ! Un moteur peu puissant ne pourra pas être utilisé avec une démultiplication trop longue. Sauf en cas de préparation moteur très poussée, ne vous éloignez jamais trop des recommandations du constructeur. Pensez également qu'en cas de de changement important, il faudra potentiellement une chaine plus longue ou plus courte (les tendeurs de chaine ont leurs limites).

Par exemple : vous avez préparé votre moteur avec un kit de cylindrée plus importante. Vous disposez maintenant d'un couple bien supérieur et souhaitez gagner un peu de vitesse de pointe. Vous pouvez monter un pignon plus grand ou une couronne plus petite pour y parvenir. Si au contraire, vous souhaitez obtenir une réponse plus franche en sortie de virage, montez alors une couronne plus grande ou un pignon plus petit.

ATTENTION ! Ajouter ou retirer une dent au pignon a une incidence bien plus importante qu'à la couronne ! On dit généralement que 1 dent au pignon correspond environ à 3 dents à la couronne.

Conseils d'entretien

L'entretien de la chaîne est très simple mais aussi très fréquent. Vous pouvez trouver des brosses et produits spécifique pour nettoyez puis graisser votre chaîne avec le plus grand soin. Plus vous serez minutieux, plus vous pourrez faire durer votre kit chaîne.

Sachez qu'une chaîne neuve s'allonge un peu plus lors de sa première utilisation que par la suite. Contrôlez donc sa tension après votre première sortie, puis recontrôler régulièrement pour évider de dérailler ou d'abîmer le bras oscillant ou les pièces qui pourraient être touchées (sélecteur par exemple sur certain modèles).

Pour les utilisateur tout-terrain (motocross, enduro, trail), l'entretien de la chaîne doit être effectué après chaque sortie, et avec une graisse spéciale off-road !

Notez également que certaines pièces sont en contact direct avec la chaine et leur état doit aussi être surveillé : le guide chaine doit être présent et en bon état pour éviter que la chaine ne déraille. Le patin de bras oscillant protège ce dernier contre les frottements avec la chaîne.
